THE JOE DREAMER SERIES

Highly regarded professor, writer and speaker Sir Ken Robinson, said that “Imagination is the source of all human achievement.” Indeed, I agree, as the goals we set for ourselves are first conceived in our minds. In Meet the Imaginative Joe Dreamer, I depict a similar concept of a child using his imagination to achieve his desired outcomes.

Young Joe Dreamer likes to draw and color and imagine his drawings becoming real. He gets very excited when he creates his art. Children’s book author Mary Ann Kohl, says that when children create art and feel good while doing so, it helps to boost their self confidence. Ms Kohl adds that when children are encouraged to express themselves and take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives.

Meet the Imaginative Joe Dreamer

We see a lot of this sense of innovation in Meet the Imaginative Joe Dreamer, as Joe gets creative with drawing what he wants on paper and imagining it all coming true. This takes us to another valuable skill – problem solving. Whenever Joe is faced with a challenge, he looks to his crayons, pencils, notepads and best of all his imagination. This concept is backed by research, as according to a report by Americans for the Arts, art education strengthens problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

On Saturday 2 June 2018 I had my book signing introducing Cayman Islands readers to Meet the Imaginative Joe Dreamer, the first in a series of children’s picture books. Due to unforeseen circumstances on the roads which created extensive delays with people getting out in time for the event, the Book signing is being extended by a further week, to Saturday 9 June 2018.

Joe Dreamer in the Classroom

One of my dreams for the Joe Dreamer series is to see the book in more classrooms. I had the privilege late last year of doing a reading at one of the primary level schools. Copies of the book were then added to the school’s library. The Year 1 teacher even incorporated questions surrounding the book as part of the students’ take home questions.

Imagination and Creativity the Wellspring of Innovation

As Sir Ken Robinson argues, imagination and creativity are the wellspring of innovation. As our world expands, being able to come up with new ideas will prove most valuable. So, Meet the Imaginative Joe Dreamer is a step in the right direction to fostering this idea of imagination and creativity in young children. After all, children are the future.

Please help support and share the word about the Imaginative Joe Dreamer. Locally, it is available in Book Nook, Galleria PLaza, Cayman Islands. While online, it is available on Amazon –
