The Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands Book Fair on Saturday was amazing! The event was held at the George Town Historical Library from 10 am through to 2pm and it was a success.

There were several authors present with their books on display. I enjoyed interacting with them. I was also very happy to have made a few book sales. I made some worthwhile connections as well. I was pleased to have met one of the founding pastors of the First Baptist Church in Cayman, and I was happy to purchase his book that speaks to some of this Baptist history.

Funny Moments

There were some funny moments of the day, mostly involving the children. There were many shy, innocent little faces coming over to my table eyeing the bowl of candy. Some asked me how much it cost. Oh my goodness. I am here to sell books; the candy is FREE! One young boy jokingly picked up the bowl and walked off. I responded, it’s NOT THAT FREE. Then he asked me if the pens were also free. I was like errr…uhhhh… well, they are there for people to write with if they need to.

I thought it was pretty funny too when two male authors teased me about making all the sales because I had a bowl of candy by my table. Well, whatever works ;-).

Gorgeous Sunshine

All in all, it was a fantastic day. Great turnout to the event. Fortunately, we also had great weather. After the downpour we experienced on Friday, I wasn’t sure what we were in for, so I am happy that all day long we had gorgeous sunshine.

Great Connections

I am happy for the connections I made with other authors. I saw two other children’s books that I intend to buy before year end from those authors. I also received a great book idea from another children’s book author. I was touched by the work of one author who mentioned the charity efforts that her book proceeds will support. That is fantastic.

All in all, it was a great day and I am pleased that the Book Fair was a success. The event was well organised and it was a good location. The public seemed genuinely interested and engaged. Even those who did not make a purchase there, took business cards and gathered information.

Now I look forward to 2019; hoping for another great year.

Best regards
