A major theme in the Joe Dreamer series is learning problem solving skills. But how is this possible, one might ask? This is a question I would love to answer.
When I created Joe Dreamer, I wanted to give children more than just a fun adventure—I wanted to help them see how they can move beyond challenges and to use their imagination in a way that helps to strengthen them in being more confident.
As Joe faces small frustrations or puzzling circumstances —whether it’s an iguana in the garden or a mysterious Easter bunny—young readers are encouraged to ask questions, think creatively, and work through solutions alongside him. Joe draws on his artwork as ways of channeling his fears into more creative pursuits.
I sometimes get the privilege of reading to small children at schools, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to introduce these young minds to Joe’s world of facing his fears and overcoming challenges at such a young age, and exploring the ways in which he builds up his confidence.
I love having the opportunity to share with young readers ways of seeing the world through fresh lens, from the point of view of Joe, a young child just like them.
Just like Joe Dreamer, they too can learn to channel their big emotions into fun, creative pursuits.
