It is almost here – The Imaginative Joe Dreamer!
Meet the Imaginative Joe Dreamer
I am absolutely thrilled to announce that my first in a series of Children’s picture book is now finalized in terms of all writing, illustration and design being all done! Meet the Imaginative Joe Dreamer will be launched on Kindle very SOON! I have been more excited about this project than any other project that I have done in a long time, because firstly I have never before ventured into the genre of writing for children. I had wanted to write a children’s book from ages ago but was never able to get the right inspiration. Usually writing for me is best when the ideas come flooding in and then I just put it all together on paper, so when I have to rock my brain about it is a high likelihood that it just will not happen.
Dear to my heart
As my followers will already know, I have already published two inspirational fiction works – a fictional autobiography and an autobiographical novel. Those were heavy stuff and geared at older children to adults, so writing a children’s book was new territory for me and at first I had no idea where to begin. The first thought I gave to writing for children was doing some kind of ABC book, but “writers block” was in full effect. Then one day, finally the inspiration came, it came through the very heart of the subject, my own child. This makes this project, this book, very dear to my heart. Let me tell you how he came to inspire me.
The Imagination Playground
So there we were one day in Camana Bay by the water fountain. As I watched him play I just thought of how magical it all looked seeing him run through the water. What was also interesting is that I had found out that the specific area was called the “Imagination Playground”. I gather that this may have something to do with the fact that the there are large blue shapes that the children can use to build various things based on their imagination. So there came my inspiration. At first I thought the book would be called the Imaginative Jamie-Dean, being inspired by my son, but the ideas that started to hit me felt bigger. I thought of all the little children in Cayman and around the world who were full of imagination. I thought of very small children drawing in their books, and I said to myself I want this book to be representative of any and all children who use their imagination.
I wanted a name that would capture this and so I thought of Joe. Joe or John Doe seems to be the common names used to represent some un-named person, so I thought I would go ahead with Joe. Naturally since it was my son who is the source of inspiration, I went with Joe as opposed to Jane. I wanted Joe to have a surname so I decided to play on the concept of the imagination by giving him the name Dreamer, hence the name Joe Dreamer. Coincidentally, this bears the same initials as that of my son “JD”. Once the book is published (in a matter of days) I will give more details about the book itself, but for now I thought I would just share with you how the idea came about.
The Cayman Islands Book Fair
Unfortunately I will not be able to make this year’s Cayman Islands Book Fair, because it falls on the very day of my wedding anniversary. So priorities of course. Nonetheless while I will be somewhat sad to miss the opportunity to introduce Joe Dreamer to the Cayman community at that event, they will most certainly get acquainted in the near future once I get around to a local book launch. But for now look out for the ebook launch very soon, in a matter of days!
